For all the folks who were looking for any of the lectures that they missed on church history, or who couldn't make the classes that Pastor John taught, HERE is the link to the audio. (To play them, use the audio controls just under Pastor John's name on the right side) Also, if you look to the left under "Links to Good Things," - right here on the blog - you'll see them there too - so you can go back to them any time.

Bah! Humbug...

It's kind of amazing how little of Christ is left in christmas. I googled "Christmas" for this image and it was almost the only one that came up depicting our Lord & Savior as having anything to do with christmas. There were plenty of trees, gifts, santas, toys... even some puppies, kittens and muppets. It's pretty sad, really. Christianity is what our nation was founded on. Our system of laws was taken from the bible. Reading and writing were originally taught in the school system using Bible primers. Check this out.

As for me and my house, we will not forget Jesus at Christmas time.

Hello All,
Hope you have recovered from the last storm if you are here in New England. We are currently having our beautiful old silver maple cut down the rest of the way after losing a large portion from the heavy snow. Fortunately, the piece that fell went across our front yard rather than across our lines to the house! The snow was so heavy that the poor thing had stress fractures all over. It's almost like losing a friend...

We had guest speakers for November 9th and 16th, so no videos for those weeks. The "Christus Victor" sermon that has just been posted was made just before we left for Thanksgiving with family. I will post this last Sunday's video later this week. Don't forget - There are 185 past sermons on the main website to browse through. Just click on the link on the left. Enjoy!

Dear Friends,

As individuals and families we have so much to be thankful for. In this land of ours, with all its problems, we are still richly blessed. Compared with much of the world our abundance is truly amazing. May the Lord help us to "forget not all of His benefits." Psalm 103:2

As a church we also have much for which to be thankful. God has given us a beautiful building, faithful folks who do their jobs for Him, a new, small, but precious, crop of young people, outreach ministries; local and around the world, a growing nucleus of prayer-warriors, and two other congregations who worship and serve our Savior in our building.

May the Lord bless you and yours in this holiday season with the greatest of all His gifts; a truly thankful heart all year 'round.

The beautiful leaves are coming to the ground and summer is over. Time to tidy up the lawn furniture, rake leaves and get the snowblowers tuned up. Soon the view out our windows will be like the change God sees in us when we come to Him in repentance... washed white as snow.

Halloween: Yes or No?

Check out what wikipedia has to say about the history of where our present day, commercialized, sugar-bingeing holiday originates. Interesting. Many Christians have banned Halloween from their lives and families and many more have switched to Harvest celebrations. Many don't give it a second thought. The Bible is pretty clear about staying away from evil in favor of good (3 John 1:11 + a thousand more verses besides)

"As Christians, why are we here in this world? Are we here to live in a safe and protected environment, guarded against the evils in the world, or are we called to reach out into a world filled with dangers and be the light of Christ? Halloween brings people of the world to our door step. Halloween brings our neighbors out into the streets. I can think of various creative ways to seize this opportunity for developing new relationships and sharing my faith. Is it possible that our negativity toward Halloween only alienates the people we seek to reach? Can we be in the world, but not of the world?" - taken from (http://christianity.about.com/od/holidaytips/i/biblehalloween.htm)

There are definitely differing opinions on it. Ask the Lord to show you what's right for you.

Alright. So now it's almost September already. Yikes! I really think each year of my life goes by just a little bit faster than the year before. I'm not ready for cold nights and not-so-hot days. I feel like I didn't have time for all the BBQ's and dirt bike riding that I wanted to get in this summer.

On the spiritual side of things; often we don't spend time in the word, pray for our unsaved friends and relatives or work hard to witness to our co-workers until we get older, as in, our "golden years." Our lives don't change as often as the seasons, but they do change slowly over time. We start out thinking that we will live "forever" and that we have all kinds of time to do what we want before we start doing what God would have us do. We may rationalize that way for years; but there comes a point in our lives when we start to see how fast our life is slipping away, and what the heck have we been doing with it?!

As Christians "what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?" (Matt. 8:36) Why are we so stiff-necked about doing our own thing? Don't we realize that we'll have all of eternity to do amazing and incredible things, but we only have a brief time here in this world to help others "see the light" and join with us in eternity? We need to live like we are at the back end of our golden years and have matured to the point of knowing what really matters. We must die to ourselves and live for Christ!

Can you believe that it's already August?!!
I can't. Seems like I was just starting my dirt bike season a few days ago and with the crash at Loudon and the bunged up knee, the summer has flashed by without another ride yet. I will get some in before the summer is over though. I hope you all are having a wonderful summer and that it's not going TOO fast for you. The Slavic church has had two of three weddings already. New babies are being born to young couples and a dear friend in the congregation passed away recently. We'll have another baptism at the Onway picnic and the life cycle goes on.

Here's a reminder to think about priorities in your life. What are the things that are most important to you? Work, money, success? What are the things that really matter when you're in the "foxhole"? God, family & friends? Do you know where you're going when you die? You can. Read the gospel of John and then 1 John and ask God to show you that He's real and listening to you. You'll be amazed! If you already know Him, don't forget to stay close!

Yes, I am bad. Slap my hand bad. I have the attention span of a squirrel and with family visiting from out west and then a dirt bike charity ride that went badly for me... actually, I had a great time riding through mud, water, rocks, roots, etc for four hours straight, and then crashed going through a tremendously easy section... I am behind on the blog again. So, slap my hand and let's get on with it. I have three sermons to post here and I will try to get them all on by this evening. The editing goes pretty fast, it's the rendering, uploading and processing that takes so much time on each video. They'll all be posted by tomorrow for sure. Hope all is well with you folks; summer is starting to come on hot and humid now - hope you can get some swimming in, or at least spend some time in A/C if not. Let the rendering begin!

Running behind again here, so even though the newsletter is posted, last week's sermon is not ready just yet and will post with this week's shortly. Sorry about that.

Friday, April 25, 2014

Hi All,
It's hard to find christian movies out there that are doctrinally sound. The new movie "Heaven is for Real" is a case in point. I think Hollywood has figured out that today's christians don't know their bibles like the christians of just a few decades ago; so if they market it as a christian movie, the churches will all run out excitedly to view it...pouring more money into the pockets of those who don't really deserve it. I haven't seen it myself but have heard that the theology is off the mark. Check out GospelSpam's take on it. "Noah" was not even close to being a representation of the bible story.

I've found that movies made by christians for christians stand a much greater chance of being worth your viewing time. Those made by Hollywood? Beware. The bottom line is this: know your bible so you can have the spiritual discernment to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Saturday, April 12, 2014

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for getting behind on sermon videos. The last three are posted to the site. The final one, on Vimeo, was still processing at 6:45pm tonight (Saturday) but should be available within the hour. Now that I'm home again we will be back to a sermon per week as usual. Thanks for your patience!

Saturday, April 5, 2014

Hello Everyone,
Sorry to leave you all hanging for the last couple of weeks. I have just returned from spending the last two weeks of my grandfathers life with him in hospice care at home in Maine. He died peacefully on April 1st and is in heaven with his wife, who passed away in the late 80's. He was the last of my grandparents and almost made 99 years (short 2 months).

So, I will post the last two week's sermons, plus this Sunday's, this week. Pastor John forgot to set up the camera last sunday so I will create a video from the audio CD for that one. Then you will be able to catch up on sermons and we will get back to the regular weekly schedule. Thanks for your patience!

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

Hello Everyone,
I will not be able to post the next sermon (possibly two) as I am in Maine with my mum as we work out all the details of getting my 99 year old grandfather into hospice care here at their home. Also, my father has just come home to recover from his second hip surgery. I will try to get the April newsletter posted to the site from here and will update the sermons as soon as I am able. Thank you for your patience.

How this site works…

For our, shall we say, less internet savvy folks; here are some tips on how to use this site. Don't be afraid to explore it. There are links that take you other places by clicking on them. Click on the picture of the church on the left side of the blog and it will magically transport you to our regular website where you can watch many of Pastor John's sermons. You can transport yourself back here by clicking on a BLOG link from there too.

On the newsletter page, if you click on the little "<" in the upper left corner, you can see more of the newsletter page. Just scroll up and down on the right hand side to see more pages.

On the calendar page, click on an event to see more details of where and when it will be and also a description of the event. You can print it by clicking on the little printer at the top of the page. Your printed copy will lose the ability to give you more details when you click on it. If you have any other questions, you can use the contact form under the picture of Pastor John's book to ask a question.      Or, just call me.

Wow. Two feet of fresh snow and then raining cats and dogs - it must be springtime… or at least getting close. This weeks sermon is posted to the blog now. Enjoy!

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Look out! We have another snow storm coming in tomorrow. That will be great for McIntyre Ski Area of course. Don't worry though - spring is on the way; only a few more snow storms to shovel out from. Check out last sunday's sermon that was posted on the sermon's page for this week.

Friday, February 7, 2014

It's beautiful outside! Just after a good dumping of fresh snow, when the sun comes out and the sky is clear, the world looks so clean and fresh. It's a great physical example of how we are changed spiritually when we accept Christ into our hearts. We aren't perfect (not by a long shot). But we are viewed by God as washed by the blood of Jesus. That's a beautiful thing inside!

The sermon from last Sunday, "A Life of Truth," is now available for viewing on the sermons page  :-)

Thursday, January 30, 2014

It's cold outside! I hope everyone is keeping themselves warm. It's supposed to be a balmy 30+ degrees today with a lovely wintry mix of rain & snow coming in this weekend. If you become house-bound due to icy roads, take a look at the February eNews which has just been posted. The January 19th sermon was also posted earlier this week. There will be no posted sermon for the 26th as we had a guest speaker. Ciao for now!

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Hello Everyone!
The January 12th video has been posted. The February eNews will be posted next week but I will send out a reminder when it's available. The work day was a success (especially due to the Slavic church) and the Sanctuary looks great with the new banners and new, brighter chandelier lights! Hope you are all well and prepared for the next snowstorm! If anyone is interested in going "Tubing" at McIntyre, I noticed that they have a deal going on Couptopia.com for $10 (instead of $20) for thursday night tubing. That would make a great youth outing or just good fun for families with children.

Sunday, January 12, 2014

The Sunday, January 5th, 2014 sermon is now available. Also, don't forget to check the calendar regularly… Next Saturday, 10am, is a big church work day and everyone is encouraged to participate. We will be taking down christmas decorations, cleaning the church, tightening pews, tidying the kitchen, etc. There will be plenty for everyone and "many hands make light work." Snacks will be provided.

The Annual Business meeting is scheduled for January 26th.

Wednesday, January 1, 2014

Happy New Year Everyone! The January eNews is posted so check it out. The newest sermon is posted from this week, so take a look. You can always see the earlier sermons by clicking over to our regular church WEBSITE and view the sermons page. There are about 150 of them posted so far… I still need to finish activating the older links but there are plenty to start with. Stay warm!
